He spent his life dedicated to his family and community, being married for 37 years to Anna Warford Catron and is survived by two daughters, Diana Howard of Galax and Mandi Howard of Bristol, Tennessee, along with stepdaughters Jana Herron of Ooltewah, Tennessee, and Kara McConville of Acworth, Georgia. In total, he leaves behind four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Ronald Catron had an extensive career in banking, dedicating 40 years to institutions such as First National Bank, Dominion Bank, and First Citizens Bank. He graduated from Galax High School in 1961 and later earned a degree in Accounting from Roanoke College, supplemented by additional studies at the University of Virginia. His professional life was paralleled by a strong dedication to community service; he served on the City of Galax Planning Commission and was active with the Mount Rogers Planning District Commission for 49 years.

A devoted member of the West Galax United Methodist Church, Catron was involved in numerous capacities, including that of music minister. He contributed to the establishment of several churches in the area, such as Iglesia Puerta de Cielo Metodista Unida at West Galax UMC, Cornerstone Community, Endless Possibilities, and River of Life Fellowship Church. Beyond his religious commitments, he engaged with local organizations, including the Moose Lodge and the Wisemen’s Club.

Ronald’s passion for music was evident; he played piano and sang baritone in The Watchmen Gospel Quartet, bringing joy to many through his talent. Apart from music, Catron had interests in Colonial Williamsburg and antique cars, and he enjoyed dining at The Grill on Main Street.
