Harold D. Mitchener, 86

Harold D. Mitchener of Bristol, Pennsylvania, died on October 7, 2025, at St. Mary Medical Center. Born on October 23, 1938, he was a lifelong resident of the area and a committed educator and community member.

The son of Harold G. Mitchener and Lutie Dodson Mitchener, Harold graduated from Bristol Borough Public School in 1956 before obtaining a BS in Education from West Chester University and an MS in Education from the College of New Jersey at Trenton. He dedicated 35 years of his life to teaching in the Bensalem Township School District.

In 1964, he married Carol Houser, who passed away in 2020 after 56 years of marriage. Harold was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bristol, participating in various capacities including singing in the choir and serving as an advisor for the youth group.

In addition, Mitchener was a Charter Member of the Bristol Cultural and Historical Foundation, where he was involved on the Board of Directors and served as President. He edited the Foundation’s newsletter for over 30 years and hosted tourists during walking tours across Bristol. Harold also volunteered at the Margaret R. Grundy Library for over two decades after retiring, sharing his passion for local history with service clubs and at local theaters.

Viewing services for Harold Mitchener will be held on October 13, 2025, from 6-8 PM at Wade Funeral Home in Bristol Borough, followed by a funeral service on October 14, 2025, at 10 AM at First United Methodist Church of Bristol, with interment at Bristol Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to his church, the Bristol Cultural and Historical Foundation, or the Margaret R. Grundy Library Historical Collection.

Lonnie D. Bristol, 81

Lonnie D. Bristol from Mankato, Minnesota, passed away at home on September 24, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on October 20, 1943, to Donald and Ruth Bristol.

Raised on a farm in Madelia, Lonnie was involved in 4-H and exhibited prize-winning Southdown sheep. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1961, where he participated in football and wrestling. Lonnie pursued higher education at Eastern Arizona College and Mankato State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in business.

Beginning his career with State Farm Insurance in November 1966, Bristol was also an active member of Hosanna Lutheran Church and engaged in various Bible studies. He was influenced by a keynote speaker at a State Farm convention about the importance of loving one’s neighbor.

Lonnie is survived by his wife Catherine, with whom he shared 62 years, their children Corey and Stacey, and son K. Matthew, each with grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Gerald and several nephews. His funeral service will take place on October 3, 2025, at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato, with visitation starting at 11:00 AM and the service commencing at 1:00 PM. Memorials may be made to Hosanna Lutheran Church, and the service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
