Woodbridge, Virginia – Kathleen (Kathy) Mary (Wholey) Loucks, beloved wife and mother, passed away at the age of 77 on September 19, 2025, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by family and close friends, Kathy spent her final moments in the comfort of her own home.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Michael Joseph Loucks, who remained by her side throughout her illness. The two met over 56 years ago and shared a loving bond characterized by fond memories of traveling and watching their grandchildren grow.

Known as the ‘glue’ of her family, Kathy was a source of support for her loved ones and also played a vital role in her community and workplace. For over 40 years, she co-produced holiday gatherings in her neighborhood, bringing friends and families together. Many who knew her described Kathy as a surrogate ‘Mom’ and a bright spirit who had a unique ability to uplift those around her.

Kathy began her career as a nurse’s aide before transitioning into various roles, including telephone operator supervisor, teacher’s aide, and ultimately serving as the Marketing Director for Potomac Mills. As a Navy wife for over 20 years, Kathy dedicated much of her time volunteering in her children’s schools and actively participating in their extracurricular activities, which encompassed figure skating, track, and soccer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph A. Wholey, Jr. and Doris Gertrude (McKeon) Wholey. Kathy is also survived by her brother, James Joseph Wholey of Lowell, MA, her daughter, Kimberly Loucks Mumpower (Claude) of Bristol, VA, her son, Christopher Michael Loucks (Tammy) of Shaker Heights, OH, and her five cherished grandchildren: Peyton Harvey Mumpower, Parker Riley Mumpower, McKeon Mae Mumpower, Lucy Jane Loucks, and Aiden Joseph Loucks. Other surviving family includes her cousin Sharon Wholey, sister-in-law Mary Hayes, and niece Stefanie Veno (Richard).

The Loucks family expressed their deep gratitude to two individuals who significantly supported Kathy during her battle with cancer: Sharon Carroll, a dear friend and neighbor, and Harlene Meister-Dinges, Kathy’s Nurse Navigator.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the following organizations: VCS Cancer Foundation, VeloSano/Cleveland Clinic, and Friedrich’s Ataxia Research Alliance.

Funeral services will be conducted by Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, located at 4143 Dale Boulevard, Dale City, VA 22193. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 6 PM to 8 PM. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 11 AM at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, located at 12807 Valleywood Drive, Lake Ridge, VA 22192. Kathy will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in the coming months.
