MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. — King University’s women’s volleyball team ended October with a 3-0 road loss to Mount Olive on Saturday at Kornegay Arena, leaving the Bristol school 11-16, including 6-13 against Conference Carolinas opponents.

The Trojans won the sets 25-17, 25-20 and 27-25. King’s best stretch came at the end. After Mount Olive controlled the opening set and pulled clear late in the second, the Tornado stayed even through the third and pushed it past 25 before the home side closed out the sweep.

Princess Emma Oluwa led King with nine kills while hitting .250. Isabella Statzer was the most efficient attacker on the floor for the visitors, putting down eight kills on .533 hitting to go with an ace and a block assist. Capri Johnson added six kills.

Ella Kiser ran the offense with 14 assists and served five aces, and Annabelle Grissom had three aces and six digs. Rylee Blevins had seven digs, and Haley Harnichar was credited with five blocks.

Mount Olive got 15 kills from Olivia Melvin and 22 digs from Kacey Gore. Setter Lyndsay Reid passed 1,000 digs for her career during the match, which was the Trojans’ last home date of the regular season. The win was Mount Olive’s sixth in a row and lifted the Trojans to 15-12, 11-8 in league play.

The numbers showed how much Mount Olive controlled the net. The Trojans finished with 47 kills to King’s 30 and hit .256 as a team, while King hit .087 with 20 attack errors. King did win the serving battle, six aces to four, and the blocking count, six to four.

The loss was King’s third straight on the road. The Tornado fell in straight sets at Lee University on Oct. 29 and lost a five-set match at Lees-McRae on Oct. 27, after sweeping Belmont Abbey on Senior Day on Oct. 24.

The Tornado wrap up regular-season play Tuesday, Nov. 3, with a 2 p.m. match at Erskine in Due West, S.C.
