BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. — The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office in Blountville, Tenn., is hosting its annual Trunk or Treat this month, and this year the event is moving to a different location.
The trunk or treat will be Thursday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the sheriff’s office at 140 Blountville Bypass in Blountville. The event is free and open to everyone, giving families from across Sullivan County a Halloween stop with candy handed out by deputies and staff.
The sheriff’s office describes the gathering as its annual Trunk or Treat and has asked residents to mark their calendars for the evening.
Lt. Jonathan Leichliter with the sheriff’s office said the event matters because it lets law enforcement meet the community in a safe environment. He noted that deputies spend the majority of their time interacting with the public in a law enforcement capacity, and events like this one let them connect with kids and parents in a relaxed setting instead.
The new site at the sheriff’s office means families will gather on the agency’s own grounds along the Blountville Bypass for this year’s event.
Leichliter said the sheriff holds events like this to give deputies the ability to interact with the community, the kids and the parents in a different environment, one that is relaxed and, above all, safe for families.
The sheriff’s office announced the event to the public as its annual Trunk or Treat at the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, inviting the whole community to come out for the evening.
Key details: the free Trunk or Treat runs Thursday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, 140 Blountville Bypass, Blountville, Tenn. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome.
