Bristol, TN — Adam Pendley Claims Victory at 6th Annual Brian James Memorial, Denying Eric Roberts Second Title

The 6th Annual Brian James Memorial, held at Janet Atwell’s Borderline Brunswick Arena in Bristol, TN on June 14, concluded with Adam Pendley defeating Eric Roberts in the final match. This victory marks Pendley’s first cash finish on the Q City 9-Ball Tour since 2022 and his first regional tour victory since 2009.

A total of 24 entrants participated in the tournament, which saw players racing to 9. Pendley faced all his opponents while giving ‘beads on the wire’, a handicap used in pool matches to balance skill differences. In the final, Pendley, racing to 10, received one ‘bead’ from Roberts, which added a layer of suspense to the match.

Pendley’s path to victory was not easy. In his opening match, he faced Donnie Streeter, overcoming a three-bead disadvantage to win 9-4. He followed that with matches against Evan Jones and Mark Hurst, winning decisively to secure his place in the hot seat match. Pendley then dominated Chris Cowan in the hot seat match, winning 9-1 to solidify his position as a contender for the title.

Eric Roberts, aiming for his second title, advanced through the bracket by defeating his competitors, including Chris Cowan in a closely contested winners’ side quarterfinal match where he won 6-4. Roberts proceeded to win his semifinal match against Cowan, setting up a highly anticipated final against Pendley.

Roberts was joined by Gavin Hatley and Janet Atwell, who both fought back from the loss side. Atwell showcased resilience by winning five consecutive matches to rematch Hatley, who had advanced alongside Roberts into the quarterfinals. However, it was Pendley’s consistent performance throughout the day that ultimately clinched him the championship title.

The tournament was not only a showcase of talent but also a community event, with tour director Herman Parker expressing gratitude to Janet Atwell and her staff for their hospitality, as well as acknowledging the sponsors who made the event possible. Pendley’s win makes him the sixth champion in the history of the Brian James Memorial, further solidifying his place in the competitive landscape of the Q City 9-Ball Tour.

Looking ahead, the Q City 9-Ball Tour will host its next event in Rock Hill, SC on June 21-22, followed by another tournament scheduled for June 28-29 in Cary, NC. The tour’s annual highlight, the 13th Annual NC State 9-Ball Open, is set for the July 4th weekend at Breaktime Billiards in Clemmons, NC, with a guaranteed prize pool of $3,000 added.
