Exciting news is coming out of Murfreesboro as our very own Chip Walters, a beloved name in sports broadcasting, is set to be inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in the Class of 2025! This honor will be bestowed upon him during a ceremony on April 7, 2025, held at the Student Union Building on the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) campus. It’s an event that promises to bring together sports lovers from all over the region!

Walters: A Legendary Voice

For those who might not know, Chip Walters has an impressive 45 years under his belt in the world of sports broadcasting, with a significant impact on both high school and collegiate athletics throughout Tennessee. His journey at MTSU is especially noteworthy, where he has dedicated 33 years to broadcasting Blue Raider athletics, and has spent 16 years as the official Voice of the Blue Raiders. It’s no wonder that he’s often regarded as one of the most recognizable figures in Tennessee sports media.

A Legacy of Passion for Sports

Chip’s contributions to local sports are truly exemplary. He has covered countless TSSAA state championship events in various sports, including football, basketball, and baseball. Whether it’s the TSSAA Blue Cross Bowl or the Boys and Girls State Basketball Tournaments, Chip has been the voice leading the excitement. He even takes on the huge task of hosting the TSSAA Spring Fling HQ broadcast, showcasing his devotion and commitment to celebrating Tennessee athletics.

Chip’s broadcasting career began while he was still a student at MTSU! He started calling local high school games for radio stations like WGNS. This early experience set the stage for a long and successful career in sports broadcasting.

Chip also hosts the Derek Mason and Nick McDevitt radio shows, entertains crowds as an emcee at various Blue Raider events, and runs a weekly show called The Roundtable on WGNS.
