NATCHITOCHES, La. — Chloe Donnell had never scored more than four points in a college game. On Monday night she entered as a reserve for Northwestern State and matched the NCAA women’s record for 3-pointers in a single game.
The sophomore guard made 14 of 23 tries from beyond the arc and finished with 46 points in only 27 minutes as the Lady Demons beat Ecclesia College 120-40 in the season opener. She added four assists and two steals.
Her 14 made threes equal the mark Baylor’s Juicy Landrum set against Arkansas State in 2019. The 46 points rank third on the Northwestern State single-game list, two shy of the school record of 48.
Donnell, who stands 5-foot-7 and hails from Boerne, Texas, played in 11 games at South Alabama last season before transferring to the Southland Conference program.
The night also gave Alan Frey his first victory as Northwestern State head coach. His team hit a school-record 20 3-pointers, won by a program-record 80 points, outrebounded Ecclesia 69-35 and held the visitors to 18.9 percent shooting. KP Parr had 11 assists and freshman Stella Allison pulled down 15 rebounds in her college debut.
The schedule gets much tougher right away. Northwestern State plays at Arkansas on Friday, Nov. 6, with a Nov. 9 trip to Oklahoma State and a Nov. 12 date at Louisiana Tech to follow.
