BRISTOL, Tenn. — Few Halloween parades can claim to march through two states at once, but Bristol’s can. Believe in Bristol’s fourth annual Halloween Parade rolls down State Street at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, right along the line between Tennessee and Virginia.

Marchers line up at Regions Bank, where Volunteer Parkway meets State Street, and the procession ends at Lee Street. School bands, floats, golf carts and dressed-up cars usually fill the route, and crowds in the thousands pack the sidewalks. Watching costs nothing.

The parade caps a full day downtown. Pumpkin Palooza kicks things off from 8 a.m. to noon. Families can grab lunch at a downtown restaurant and then head out for trick-or-treating along State Street beginning at 3 p.m.

Organizers set the parade for late afternoon so children still have plenty of time to get back to their own neighborhoods for trick-or-treating after dark.

Groups that want to march can still sign up through Believe in Bristol, the nonprofit that runs the event.

The parade is the biggest of a long list of Halloween weekend events around the Tri-Cities. Churches and businesses across the region are hosting 84 trunk-or-treats over the weekend, including the first annual trunk-or-treat at Bristol Barber Club on Saturday at 11 a.m. Eight high school football games are also on the Friday night schedule around the region.

Believe in Bristol says its parade is probably the only one of its kind anywhere in the U.S. held in two states at the same time, since State Street itself serves as the border.
