BRISTOL, Va. — The Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol, Va., has built a fall calendar around the nation’s 250th anniversary, pairing history exhibits with live music, a trivia night and a free admission day over the next several weeks.

The museum’s fall listings describe a pair of exhibits that view the country’s 250th birthday through a Virginia lens, one built around the Revolutionary War and the other around the newcomers who settled in the state. Both are meant to tie the national milestone to people and places close to home.

The Give Me Liberty exhibit looks at the state’s part in the fight for independence and stays up through Nov. 22. The second, titled We the People, focuses on immigrants and the mark they left on the country; it opens Oct. 27 and closes Dec. 6.

A traveling VA250 exhibit called Out of Many, One will also park across the street from the museum Oct. 28-31, giving visitors a hands-on look at Virginia history.

The first event on the schedule is a trivia night, Founders, Flags & Flame, set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, on the rooftop bar at the Bristol Hotel. On Oct. 31 the museum opens its doors for free during Community Day, with activities planned from noon until 3 p.m.

In November, a speaker session on the Overmountain Men is set for the evening of Nov. 10. The biggest night comes Friday, Nov. 13, when Songs of the Revolution, an original show that mixes music and storytelling from local groups and artists, takes the stage at the Cameo Theatre that evening at 7. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and a ticket costs $15.
